Registry-style ceremonies by civil celebrants, not a government registry office. No fuss, no frills, no wedding. Just paperwork.

Can I Get Married Online?

Short answer

No. You cannot get legally married online in Australia.

For the marriage ceremony itself, the couple, the celebrant, and the two witnesses must all be physically present.

What you can do online

Even though the ceremony must be in person, a lot of the process can still start online.

You can:

  • click Get Married and book online
  • prepare your NOIM on NOIM Easy
  • ask questions by email
  • send copies of documents for checking
  • organise the paperwork before the ceremony day

What still has to happen in person

  • the celebrant must physically meet each party separately before the marriage is solemnised
  • the marriage ceremony must happen with everyone physically present
  • the certificates must be signed on the day

If you are overseas right now

You can often start the process from overseas, but you still need to be physically present in Australia for the marriage ceremony itself.
