Shortening of Time for Marriage
A shortening of time is the legal process used when you need to get married in less than one month from the date the NOIM is received.
It is not automatic, and it is never guaranteed.
Important starting point
The NOIM must usually be lodged first.
That means:
- you book the service
- you complete the NOIM
- we receive the NOIM
- then, if needed, you look at a shortening of time application
The five official categories
Under the Marriage Regulations, the recognised categories are:
- employment-related or other travel commitments
- wedding or celebration arrangements
- medical reasons
- legal proceedings
- error in giving notice
What we can and cannot do
We can:
- explain the process
- explain what paperwork you still need for the marriage
- tell you where to start asking questions
We cannot:
- guarantee approval
- make the decision
- override a refusal
- give legal advice
Important fit check
A shortening of time does not turn this into a wedding package.
This site is still for the simple legal marriage only.
